...isn't it?

The Diary Movie

Synopsis

With my deepest wounds as evidence
I enter the court room in silence
They got their lawyers, proof and receipts
And I gave them my words to use against me
I will not fight back
I will not defend a guilty man
And just let them cast their judgment
Those little drops of God on Earth
That know everything
So, I rest my hand on the Bible
And swear an oath
To say my truth, and nothing but my truth
And that I will never be put on trial ever again

Beyond the Movie: a Letter from Anthony

What made …isn’t it? so hard to make was the vulnerability behind it. I am ready to share my darkest thoughts, but at the same time I feel like there are some parts I want to keep to myself. This is how I would describe this movie: torn between what to show and what to keep. The first step of the movie was selecting what would make it into the actual cuts. I had so many written archives that I could have easily turned this short into a feature film. Then again came the question of what is too much to share, and could do more damage than good. A lot of very dark imagery had to be cut for this purpose, it felt like too much. I was at the same time afraid of the damage these words could do, and at the same time of the repercussions on my own life of these thoughts getting out. The next step was translating everything into computer images, to avoid having everything just be text on a screen. These words aren’t just thoughts, they are self-affirmations, reminders, warning. They cannot all be shown in the same way. From there it became a twisted game of putting my darkest thoughts right in front of me to find and refind in the way that would hurt the most. I have to admit, my laptop wasn’t usable for a couple days because of all the sticky notes and stuff. But a lot of the imagery came on the fly, even while recording. I was actively writing and rewriting the whole movie every time I worked on it. There’s nothing more to say, I will let the movie speak for itself.

O bittersweet world
How dare you move on without me?
You're tormenting my mind daily
Torn between the dead and the living
O bittersweet feeling
That keeps making a fool of me
Tell me, why can't I be happy
That the world won't die along with me?
Forever is not a time
It's merely many tomorrows put together
And when the last forever comes
What will be left? If not the past
And when the past expires
Like everything does in life
Then only loneliness remains
Forever is not forever
But loneliness is
How frail my little heart is
I love you but I try to hide it
Over
and over
and over again
But I might just face it
Loving you's just the worst... isn't it?
Like a toddler learning to walk
Like raindrops on a January morning
Like my name in your ever-changing thoughts
Like the leaves during the fall
I'm falling
falling
falling for you
But I don't want to
Loving you's just the worst... isn't it?
As the hurricane hit, everyone looked for shelter
While I was pushing into my closet the skeletons I've kept in there forever
As I went outside, everyone had already left town
This is how it feels to be forgotten
This is how it feels to be a burden to have
It was our town, now it's mine
Property of the one left behind
And when the flood will destroy everything
Maybe then, I could become somebody new
Not your burden anymore
Be my own person, dancing with my skeletons
Melodies of storms haunt my summer nights
Don't leave me here alone to surrender to my fright
And when the whole town curses my name
Will you hold my hand?
Will you say we're the same?
If I cry in the middle of the night
Feeling that drop of sweat trickling down my spine
Still back there, stuck in that moment in time
I'm a shadow of my old self
And I can't find my way back
Cause I'm drowning
drowning
drowning in life
So help me navigate it, it's not what it should feel like
There can't be such a thing as too much life, right?
It's such a double-edged sword at times... isn't it?
